Biografia Nato nel 1953 nel Wisconsin in una famiglia di musicisti - madre pianista e padre chitarrista - studia composizione e arrangiamento alla University of North Texas, unendosi alla band di Woody Herman per un tour di otto mesi.Nel 1974 incontra Pat Metheny, con cui fonda nel 1977 una delle jazz band di maggiore successo, il Pat Metheny Group.Ha ottenuto 4 nomination al Grammy per i suoi lavori da solista.
