Gary Burton Biografia

Biografia Gary Burton, assieme a Bobby Hutcherson, Milt Jackson e Lionel Hampton è uno dei pochi vibrafonisti conosciuti nel mondo. Dotato di notevole tecnica e di un suono particolare che gli permettono di suonare come se fossero tre persone a farlo. Autodidatta e fan di Bill Evans, ha un approccio allo strumento di tipo pianistico. A diciassette anni comincia a collaborare con musicisti di varia natura musicale. Firma nel 1961 un contratto con la casa discografica RCA e registra una serie di dischi. Nel 1963 è in tournée con il pianista George Shearing e dal 1964 al 1966 con il sassofonista Stan Getz. Nel 1967 guida il suo quartetto di fusion. Dal 1970 comincia una serie di collaborazioni importanti con i pianisti Chick Corea e Keith Jarret e con quest'ultimo incide un disco intitolato Gary Burton & Keith Jarret. Tre anni dopo seguirà un altro album con il bassista Steve Swallow, Hotel Hello, per la casa discografica ECM con cui firmerà altri album. Negli anni novanta si unis
